About Sheikh School

Sheikh Secondary School, located in the town of Sheikh in the Sahil Region of Somaliland, is a prestigious boarding school established in 1958 during the British Somaliland era.

The school has consistently been one of the top educational institutions in the country, with a distinguished history of alumni who have become prominent Somaliland politicians. These include the late President Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal, who served as President of Somaliland from 1993 until 2002; President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo, who served from 2010 to 2017; and Vice President Abdirahman Aw Ali Farah, who served from 1995 to 1997.

Although the school was temporarily closed for several years due to the Somali civil war, it was reopened in 2003 by SOS Children’s Villages.

Under Pharo Foundation Management

Since September 2019, Pharo Foundation, a non-profit organization, has managed the school's operations.

Under Pharo Foundation's leadership, the school has undergone significant changes, including the introduction of an AS curriculum, the establishment of a world-class college counseling program, investment in the quality of teaching staff through regular hands-on training, the introduction of new facilities, and the renovation of existing ones. These efforts have been instrumental in preparing students to be competitive for global opportunities.

Sheikh Secondary School is renowned for its academic excellence and offers a safe and supportive environment where students of all abilities can thrive. The school is dedicated to helping students succeed and realize their full potential through a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum. It serves students in grades 9 through 12.
